School Age Program

The Corpus Christi Kindergarten/School Age Program is located in Corpus Christi Catholic School at 157 Fourth Avenue, Ottawa. 

 

We have a small Kindergarten group of 10 children in the afternoons.  All these children attend school in the morning at either Corpus Christi or Mutchmor schools.  15 School-Agers (grades 1-3) join the younger children before and after school.  On P.D. days, school holidays and in the summer, the program operates a full day schedule.

 

The program focuses on the social, physical, emotional and creative development of 25 children, aged 4-9 years of age, who attend neighbourhood schools.  For the Kindergarten children, language, math, science, music, and art activities are provided regularly.  At the same time, the older children are encouraged to explore all aspects of their world and to explore and create with natural materials both indoors and in the living environment outside.

 

The program raises awareness of multi-cultural issues and promotes non-sexist attitudes in all children through dramatic play and everyday-living activities; language experience in books, videos and films.  Physical play outdoors is supplemented by dance, music and movement.

 

At the Corpus Christi Kindergarten/School-Age Program, we have created a calm, rich, stimulating environment for children.  In this safe and supportive place, we encourage consistency, fairness and caring; we emphasize cooperative play, problem solving (both as an individual and group skill), and positive verbal communication.
