First Ave. Kinder
& School Age Program
History
Our First Avenue Kindergarten and School Age Program is located in First Ave. Public School. This program opened in the basement of this school in 2001. In 2005 the school was having trouble with overcrowding. They started to talk to us about needing our rented space for classrooms. The staff at our First Ave. day care program, not wanting parents to lose our much needed services, started looking for alternative spaces. The staff discovered an undeveloped area under the school. When they discovered this area, it was just a crawlspace with dirt for a floor. The First Ave. Day Care staff had the creative vision of what it could become. After a lot of hard work that involved meetings, research and planning, budgeting, and grant proposals; our new location was built. After spending 1 1/2 years planning and close to $800,000 on construction, we moved into this fabulous space in Sept. 2007.
